TLC vehicle retirement calculator
Find out when a yellow taxi has to come off the road under TLC rules. Enter the hack-up date, and the model year if the vehicle was used when it was hacked up.
What this calculator covers
It calculates dates for yellow taxis only. For-hire vehicles are explained but not calculated, and street hail liveries (green cabs) are not covered because we have not verified their rule. Results come from the published rule, not your vehicle record. Confirm with TLC.
The rules behind the dates
Taxis that are not wheelchair accessible retire at the first scheduled inspection 84 months after hack-up. For a vehicle that was used at hack-up, TLC subtracts the vehicle’s age (hack-up year minus model year).
